Mainstream Media Insights

Note: It is essential to remain critical of what you read in mainstream media because it presents a filtered reality that reflects the vision of the anointed - those who claim to have the solutions to society's problems. By questioning and verifying information, readers can cut through the spin and gain a more accurate understanding of the world, rather than relying on a one-sided narrative.

There is a test case for funding cuts.

Washington Week With The Atlantic is a partnership between NewsHour productions, WETA, and The Atlantic airing every Friday on PBS stations nationwide. You can check your local listings, watch full episodes here, or listen to the weekly show here. Donald Trump asked Congress to take back $9 billion in federal spending, including funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting. Panelists on Washington Week With The Atlantic discussed the president's request and what it might mean for future appropriations. The vote was a test case of whether Republicans in Congress could change the way the government appropriates money, according to a staff writer at The Atlantic. 60 votes are needed in the Senate to pass a budget when one party controls both chambers of Congress. He said that means you need a bipartisan process. This request can pass with more than 50 votes....

5 years ago, the PS3 gave us assassin's Creed in Japan.

In 2020, at the height of everyone staying inside and away from others, an exclusive promised a journey to a foreign land and ancient time, where you could play as a noble samurai with a sacred mission. It was a great release. You were given a distraction when you were playing as Jin Sakai. The battles along the way didn't demand perfect timing, and the quest indicators and large icons telling you where to go remind of every big flagship title. It was easy and straightforward, unlike the Elden Ring. Ghost of Tsushima is one of the first games to be played on the new console generation and was developed by Sucker Punch. The story was generic and lacking in romance. The stealth sections were too obvious for some people and the ways to climb the walls had marked ledges similar to the ones in Final Fantasy....

The new sun worships.

The early aughts were the worst time to be alive. On Britney Spears's midriff, there were tans on her. The Jersey Shore ethos of "gym, tan, laundry" encapsulated an era in which tanning salons were after-school hangouts, and tanning stencils in the shape of the Playboy bunny were considered stylish. People still sought the real thing despite the proliferation of self-tanning products. The appeal of tanning faded by the end of the decade. Americans became more aware of the health risks as a result of the recession. America is once again glowing. The president and many of his followers are on the verge of orange, and the parties thrown by the youth of the MAGA movement are bronze....

The church should not be degraded with politics.

If clergy endorse political candidates from the pulpit, churches will no longer risk their nonprofit status according to a court document filed by the IRS. A lawsuit brought against the agency by evangelical groups argued that the prior ban on church involvement in political campaigns violated their First Amendment rights. Their victory may turn out to be a Faustian bargain: Churches can now openly involve themselves in elections, but in doing so, they risk becoming de facto political organizations. The supersession of heavenly concerns by earthly ones could be a loss if what appears to be a triumph over liberalism is true. The role of religion in American politics has long divided churches. militating against the separation of church and state limits what churches can do to exercise power in society. The IRS change is one of several changes by the Trump administration that will allow churches to play a bigger role in electoral politics. A norm of discouraging churches from turning into mere organs of political parties and an emphasis on forming the conscience of believers have been produced by an approach to operate within the confines of that separation....

Wine is hurt by President Trump's tariffs.

A planned 30% US tariffs on EU wines could force layoffs in America's wine trade. The US wine industry warns that distributors who rely on European bottles for most of their revenue would collapse, hurting domestic winemakers and vintners too. While some California grape growers hope the tariffs will level the playing field for US winemakers, importers and retailers don't think it's a long-term solution. Critics say tariffs won't fix oversupply or falling demand and will instead shrink the U.S. wine industry. This is a transcript of a story from Bloomberg.

Critics of the Trump administration are demanding the release of Justice Department files.

Under intense pressure from his own supporters, President Donald Trump's administration asked a federal court to unseal secret documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's case in an effort to put to rest for good a political crisis largely of its own making. Even if those records become public, it is not certain that they will appease critics enraged over the administration's unfulfilled promises of full transparency about evidence against the wealthy financier. The administration is under scrutiny for its refusal to release other records in its possession after stoking conspiracy theories and promising to uncover government secrets. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that a sexually suggestive letter that bore Trump's name was included in a 2003 album for Epstein's 50th birthday. Trump denied writing the letter, calling it "false, malicious, and defamatory." Shortly after the story was published, Trump said he had directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to "produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval." The Justice Department was going to ask the court to unseal the grand jury transcripts. The motion was filed by the deputy attorney general. Grand juries decide whether to indict or not, and their proceedings are secret to protect the reputations of people who end up not being charged, and to encourage reluctant witnesses to testify....

I was slow to come around to the idea of paying college athletes for their athletic skills played out in the service of the school because I had never fully learned the lessons of the Jim Thorpe biographies I read as a kid. It was all about old-fashioned loyalty to the idea of amateurism. Guys play in college for fun. Maybe impress some girls. More power to you if you become a professional athlete. That is where the money is. No more. According to the college sports organization, the quarterbacks, running backs and shooting guards have been able to make big bucks from third parties using their personal brand for a couple of years now....

Colbert's most partisan moments have been on the 'Late Show'.

Reaction to the cancellation of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" was partisan. While prominent Democrats and liberal journalists mourned the news that CBS axed Truth Social, President Donald Trump was happy about it. "The Late Show" has become one of late-night's most reliably partisan programs under Colbert, with Democrats frequently booked for friendly interviews, abundant anti-Trump and anti-Republican jokes in his monologues, and the host himself even helping at a glittery fundraiser. Colbert's most partisan moments at the helm of "The Late Show" can be found here. Colbert said that he had no jokes in the summer of 2020 when he broadcasted remotely in the middle of the COVID-19 epidemic. He said his job was to have a joke for every time someone said something. I have never been happier to fail at my job than I am now. "For four years, we've looked on in horror as Donald Trump tore down every norm in American life," he said....

The architects of the HQ renovation wanted glass, but the Trump appointees wanted marble.

The marble finishes and hefty price tag of the Federal Reserve headquarters have been looked to by President Donald Trump as grounds to fire Chair Jerome Powell. The use of marble in the building is a result of policies supported by Trump. During the vetting process for the renovation of the Fed's headquarters in Washington during Trump's first term, appointees of the president called for more white Georgia marble on the building's facade. The architects of the Fed wanted glass walls to reflect the central bank as a transparent institution, but three Trump appointees to a local commission felt marble was the best choice for the building. According to the minutes of the Commission of Fine Arts, marble was added as a result of the glass exterior being kept. $600 million in cost overruns for the project are not explained by the marble, but by the addition of an underground parking garage and glass atria in the building's courtyards. The White House tried to use the renovation to paint the central banker as a profligate spender as a pretext to remove him, but the roots of its extensive use further muddies the situation. Alex Krieger, a Harvard University professor who was a member of the commission and participated in hearings on the Fed's proposal, said he wouldn't be surprised if the result costs more....

Note: As we venture into the realm of alternative media reporting, it is essential to acknowledge that not all sources are created equal. While some outlets offer crucial counter-narratives and insights, others pose a significant risk of misinformation, perpetuating controlled opposition or serving as wolves in sheep's clothing, intent on misleading their audience with agendas designed to confuse rather than inform.

Caddo Pottery Patterns are related to other world's.

The photographs I took yesterday of the collection of Caddo pottery at Henderson State College are the basis for this post. The collection of artifacts is well worth a day trip. It has powerful energy. The admissions and financial aid offices can be seen on the left as you enter the campus. The parking is on the right. Excellent air conditioning was a bonus in 97 degree heat. The incised patterns for me are echoes of phase shifts, knots, labyrinths, and physics, so I was called to come see the pottery.
