Is retail theft going up?
Six masked and hooded men burst into a Tustin jewelry store, smashed glass cases with tire irons and hammers, and grabbed treasures worth $87,000, then hopped a fence onto the 55 freeway and sped away. The Gucci store in Costa Mesa's South Coast Plaza was targeted by a group of black-clad thieves who stole designer handbags worth $100,000. There is a video of a smash and grab at the Topanga Mall. Over the last few years, there has been a lot of chaos in Southern California. It was the thing that helped obliterate much of the other initiative, the one called "drug users and small-time thieves should get treatment and rehabilitation, not jail." Retail theft has risen over the last decade, but unevenly. It is far below the historical highs of 40 years ago, according to data crunched by the Legislative analyst's office. There were about 1,100 retail thefts for every 100 Californians in the 1980's....

There is a secret weapon behind the scariest sci-fi horror movie of the year.
It was a meme that went around the world: A doll dressed like a Victorian schoolgirl sashays down a hallway with a blade in her hand, ready to butcher her next victim, but not before she does a TikTok-ready twirl. It turned M3GAN into a campy horror sensation, and turned dancer-turned-actress Amie Donald into the biggest horror star no one would recognize. Donald is the body behind M3GAN, the physical performer who brings the evil doll to life. M3GAN is not very evil this time around. M3GAN 2.0 takes its cue from T2 Judgment Day and pits a reprogrammed M3GAN against a bigger, badder, deadlier robot. It is a wild journey for M3GAN and his body double. Donald had no idea that M3GAN would take off the way it did when she was first cast in the movie. When I first saw the trailer, I was shocked, but I was happy that people were loving the movie as much as I loved making it....

What does the Mamdani win mean for the Democratic Party?
I didn't register to vote in New York City for a while because I didn't want to get involved in Manhattan politics. It wasn't easy for a California kid to stay warm and cool, but they did. The early 1980s was not a good time to be in the city. Everything was dirty. The subway cars were covered in graffiti. There were no international men of mystery living in Central Park South. The SCOTUS restores needed balance to our government.
The issue of whether individual federal district court judges can stop a presidential action in the entire country was only part of the decision handed down by the Supreme Court. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office that stated that children born in the United States to parents who are in the country illegally would not be automatically granted U.S. citizenship. The Supreme Court was not yet considering the merits of the lawsuits. The justices were considering whether the District Court judges in the U.S. have the power to impose a universal injunction that stops executive branch officials from applying the Executive Order to anyone. By a vote of 6-3, the Supreme Court held that universal injunctions likely exceed the authority that Congress has given to federal courts. The executive branch was able to issue public guidance about how the Executive Order on birthright citizenship would be implemented after the partial stays of the lower court injunctions were granted. The majority opinion written by Justice Amy ConeyBarrett left some avenues open for these and others to pursue nationwide relief. The issue of universal injunctions had many paths back to the Supreme Court in the future according to the concurring opinions of Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh....

Despite budget crisis, UN blasted for funding committee.
Critics slammed the United Nations for rewarding the anti-Israel Commission of Inquiry with four new positions worth up to three-quarters of a million dollars, even as the world body undergoes a severe cash crisis. The United Nations doesn't have a spending limit when it comes to funding the spread of antisemitism, according to the director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust. On June 4, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Palestinian Territory, Including East Jerusalem (COI), led by South African Navi Pillay, announced four new job openings. Two P-2 level associate interpreters, one higher-level P3 level human rights officer, and a senior P-4 level human rights officer are included. The UN officials' salaries will be based on salary scales released by the U.N. and their location. Other senior-level U.N. employee benefits are not included in these salaries. The U.N.'s belt-tightening exercise applies to all kinds of urgent matters but exempts the COI. The COI was created to destroy the Jewish state....

Desperate search for two dozen missing girls from summer camp after Texas floods kill at least 24
After a wall of water rushed down a river in the Texas Hill Country during a powerful storm that killed at least 24 people, crews searched through the night for two dozen children from a girls' camp and many others who were still missing. It was certain that the death toll would rise. The waters of the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes before dawn on Friday, washing away homes and vehicles. There were still flash flood warnings and watches in effect for parts of central Texas as more heavy rains were expected Saturday. The camp and others in the area are coming under scrutiny over whether they received proper warning or not. Rescuers used boats and drones to look for victims. One sheriff said that about 24 of the missing were girls who had been at a Christian summer camp along the river. Photos of missing loved ones and pleas for information were posted by parents and families....

The Ex-ECB official urged Europe to back Euro stable coins.
Stable coins are growing fast. The majority of the $255 billion sector is concentrated in U.S. dollar-backed token. Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, a former European Central Bank board member and chair of Société Générale, said that Europe could be left out of the next phase of global finance. Bini Smaghi wrote in the Financial Times that the European Union has a law that requires issuers to back their token with cash and high-grade bonds. The bloc has a pilot regime for trading on distributed ledgers. He wrote that the euro barely features in today's stable coin market because banks and policymakers shy away from the new technology. It was back in 2023 that Société Générale launched its own stable coin. It launched a U.S. dollar-backed one last month....

Ghost town has been brought back to life thanks to street murals.
An abandoned ghost town in southern Italy has come back to life thanks to over 140 vibrant murals that have turned the area into a street art hotspot. SWNS reported that the region's population had been decreasing as young people left for jobs and fewer babies were born there. Lino Lombardi, a local artist, was frustrated by the decline of his hometown and launched a street art festival. At first people thought I was crazy, but I couldn't just watch the town fade away. I started looking at the walls as blank canvases, which could be turned into something beautiful. Six murals were created at the first event of the festival. In the Puglia region, there are more than 140 murals depicting inspiring themes each year, including agriculture, migration within Italy and local life. The topics are voted on by the residents....

Trust in safe, sustainable materials is being undermined by sensationalized headlines.
"You have a spoon's worth of plastic in your brain" was the headline of a story earlier this year. The warning, based on a study published in Nature Medicine, set off a cultural firestorm, dominating news cycles, TikToks and dinner table conversations. It was the kind of phrase designed to get people talking. The follow-up did not go viral. The study relied on equipment with limitations in distinguishing plastics from other materials, which led to potential false positives. Why are majorMUSEUMS not celebrating the spirit of America? If you don't adequately remove biological material from the sample, the method will give you a lot of false positives. Most of the plastic they found is polyethylene, which indicates that they didn't clean up their samples properly....

Ovarian cysts are among the most common gynecological findings, yet they often strike without warning. These sacs are usually harmless and grow on or inside the ovaries. When they grow too large, they cause sudden, severe pain, disrupt your hormones, and even threaten fertility. They signal ovarian cancer in rare cases. Most women don't even know they have a cyst until they get an abortion. Considering the risk of complications, that's a concerning gap in awareness. Pain in your lower abdomen, irregular periods, pain during sex, and changes in urination or bowel habits are all signs of an ovarian cyst. Some women don't feel anything at all....

The UK government's proposed digital ID is so that they can track everything that you do, according to English football legend Matt Le Tissier. They're going to do everything they can to make you think it's a good idea, and it's for your safety, because it's a social credit system like they've got in China. They'll use the illegal immigrants as an excuse to bring it in, and hope that you'll just put up with it. The people in our governments are the only ones who need to be tracked and traced. If the revenue from the production or distribution of pornography is less than 3%, an investment in a company that is distinctly Christian may be appropriate. Investment in human embryonic cloning has the most impact for shock value. The EIAG Statement of Ethical Investment Policy has a specific clause. The patronage of businesses involved in lethal weapons, pornography and cloning is described as investment exclusions. The Church of England ethically invests in pornography, weapons and embryology.
