Fears of pricing out fields of study are caused by GOP's proposed cap on grad student loans.
Congress is about to approve new restrictions on how much graduate students can borrow from the federal government in a move that will ice marginalized communities out of advanced degrees. As part of the mega bill Republicans hope to pass this week to advance President Trump's agenda, senators included a ceiling on federal student loans for graduate, medical and law students as a way to combat the rising cost of college. Graduate students will only be able to borrow $20,500 a year, with a lifetime cap of $100,000. Professional students can borrow up to $50,000 a year with a lifetime cap of $200,000. With some students unable to cover the full cost of an advanced degree without a government loan, advocates worry about students turning to private lenders or skipping out on an advanced degree altogether at a time when more jobs are requiring the additional education. There are two possible outcomes of this. Black and Latino Americans will be disproportionately affected by the fact that more and more students will decide graduate school is not worth it and won't go at all despite the growing share of the workforce that requires some form of post-graduate education. Kyle Southern, associate vice president of higher education quality at The Institute for College Access & Success, said that he expected significant growth in the private lending market....

The starmer vows a budgetary rigor after the UK selloff.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer gave his full backing to the Chancellor of the Exchequer after she failed to guarantee her position in parliament. On Thursday, Starmer promised his government will adhere to strict budget rules as he tries to soothe market sentiment after uncertainty caused UK government bonds, the pound and stocks to fall on Wednesday. Adam Blenford explains the situation.

The new London IPOs hit a 28-year low.
The first half-year for IPO volume in London was the lowest since 1997 and there was a report that the chief executive officer wants to move the company's listing to the US. Pressure is mounting to reverse the slow but inexorable shrinking of London's historic trading venue due to the fact that companies are going where liquidity is abundant, a steady trickle of firms being taken private, and too few initial public offerings coming along to replace them. In the last few years, more than $100 billion of London-listed companies have announced or executed plans to move to New York. According to the Times, Soriot wants to move the drugmaker's stock listing to the US due to his frustration with the UK's regulatory regime for drugs and concern that the country's life sciences industry is falling behind the US and China. An exit from the exchange by the most valuable British company would cause a domino effect across the financial sector, and risk more inviting firms to join the confidence-eroding flow of listings leaving the City. That would make it more difficult to get new IPOs. The amount of money raised by companies in London in the last six months was less than in the US. The trend of companies moving their listings to the US is speeding up....

California is trying to regulate 'robo bosses' at work after Congress backed off of an artificial intelligence regulation moratorium.
Artificial intelligence is well on its way to becoming intertwined in almost every facet of work, from recruiting job candidates to evaluating employee performance. There is a new bill out of California that would put some limits on how much power artificial intelligence can have in the office. The "No Robo Bosses" Act was introduced in March and is written by two California Assembly members. The bill is supported by the California Federation of Labor Unions. When it comes to promoting, demoting, firing, or disciplining workers, it requires human oversight. LLMs would not be able to access personal information about a worker, including their immigration stations, religious beliefs, or health care history. It would not allow the use of artificial intelligence for predicting a worker's behavior in the future that leads to negative actions against them. Luana de Mello, assistant general counsel and HR consultant with Engage PEO, tells Fortune that the Act will be a first-of-its-kind as it places significant restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace....

Some Roombas are really good, but they are not the only good robot vacuums. "Roomba" isn't just a generic term for a robotic vacuum, it's a term that many people forget, because iRobot dominated the robot vacuum realm from the early 2000s up until a few years ago. Whether you need the latest specifications or a great deal, you should buy a laptop.
A laptop doesn't make a great impulse buy like a pack of gum or a weird thingamajig. If the computer you depend on for work, school, or entertainment randomly decides to kick the bucket, the best time to replace it is immediately. Most people can plan before investing in a machine they hope to use for a long time. Do you want a laptop that costs less than usual, or a laptop with minty-fresh specs? We can point you to key times to buy based on our knowledge of past laptop launches and deals. splurging on the laptop of the moment is more appealing than buying an older model at a discount for future-proofers and shoppers with cash to spare. Gay dating is being made more intentional by Archer.
Gay dating apps are likely to come to mind whenever you think of them. These platforms are popular with thirsty guys who want to get laid. A new report from the Match Group's dating app, called The Naked Truth, suggests a shift in how gay men are using apps. Gay men on the show are six times more likely to be looking for a husband. The company describes the app as a " social-first alternative to some of those more hookup-focused, location-based apps out there." The main push of the app is to offer gay, bisexual, and queer men a more intentional dating experience, with a focus on building community and helping everyone stay safe with its in-app Health Hub. Since it's debut in the App Store, Archer has gotten a lot of attention as a new player in the gay dating app scene. I've been to some great events sponsored by Archer in NYC, and the team seems genuinely interested in helping people find their forever person....

The presence of the floating Pentagon is well known in Sweden.
The US command ship Mount Whitney has docked at Frihamnen port in Sweden. The visit marks the conclusion of a month-long mission in the Baltic Sea where the vessel played a leading role in the extensive NATO exercise Baltops. The flagship of the US Sixth Fleet is designed to command complex and extensive military operations. It is a hub for US naval operations because it is 200 meters in length. Jonathan Desimone, Command Systems Officer aboard, said that the main strength of the Pentagon is in communication and command systems. During the recently concluded Baltops, an annual NATO-led exercise in the Baltic Sea, Mount Whitney played a key role. Several Swedish liaison officers were aboard as part of the NATO staffing when the Swedish Navy participated with a submarine. Commander and Captain Colin Price says that they had several Swedish liaison officers aboard throughout the exercise....
