The catalyst of catastrophic Texas flooding was Trump's approach to climate change.

The White House called it "shameful and disgusting" that critics blamed staffing cuts at the National Weather Service for the death and destruction caused by the floods in Texas. At least 59 people, including 21 children, have been confirmed dead from the flash floods. The girls' summer camp near the river was flooded due to the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry. The storm made it's way to Mexico and caused huge storms over parts of Texas. "It only took 9 days for Trump's cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to kill dozens of children in Texas when Tropical Storm Barry landed this week," wrote Grant Stern, the executive editor of Occupy Democrats. That is what they are getting. Rachel Bitecofer, assistant director at Christopher Newport University's Wason Center for Public Policy, said that what has happened to the girls at Camp Mystic is exactly what one of the country's best meteorologists warned would happen. The storm prediction nationwide has been impacted by Trump's cuts to the NWS....

Texas officials are under scrutiny for their response to the flooding.

Before heading to bed before the Fourth of July holiday, Christopher Flowers checked the weather while staying at a friend's house. He didn't notice anything in the forecast. He woke up in darkness to electrical sockets popping and ankle-deep water. His family quickly got nine people into the attic. He did not remember when the chaos started, but the phones buzzed with alert. A tornado warning that tells people to get out is what they need, according to Flowers. At least 43 people were killed in Kerr County, Texas, and an unknown number of people were still missing after the fast-flowing waters of the Texas Hill Country wreaked havoc on Friday. Most of the dead were recovered from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along a river in Kerr County....

The fate of Gaza without Hamas is being debated.

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu will meet at the White House on Monday. One of the hardest questions to answer is what Gaza would look like without Hamas. According to experts, almost every proposed solution comes with serious structural, political and security limitations. John Hannah is a senior fellow at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America. Hannah said that part of how you win is by showing there's a viable alternative. There is a future beyond Hamas that is supported by a coalition of key Arab states, according to experts. While a new administration in Gaza should be independent, some symbolic link to the Palestinian Authority could enhance its legitimacy with the Arabs. Maybe Ramallah could be used as a pass-through for paying salaries....

Lamentations.

I received the news that Harold had died in one of his caves in March. I saw him as one of the shrewd birds that steal other's eggs, and I didn't expect him to still be doing fieldwork. The last time we met was in Paris. At any moment, the toy car he was driving looked like it would break into pieces, the doors would fall off and the bottom would fall out, leaving Harold with no choice but to leave. I believe he was wearing a woolen overcoat and a fur hat in the Russian style. It was so apt that he had gone out and bought it for himself, even though he claimed it had been a gift. I could imagine him walking down the street and seeing it in the window of a shop, and it would make him feel like he was touching another person. He had to buy it....

At least 51 people were killed in a flash flood in Texas.

More people are affected by these problems than in the past. One of the most influential factors in this trend is what we eat. The American diet has changed dramatically over the last century. Home-cooked meals made from simple, whole ingredients have steadily given way to ultraprocessed products. Most people weren't aware that these changes were happening. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that the "America Party" (AMEP) was established by Musk on July 6, 2025. The Chief Financial Officer of the company is also the custodian of records. A July 4, 2025, poll on X, open to users worldwide, where 65% of 1.25 million respondents supported creating an alternative to the U.S. two-party system spurred Musk to file. Critics argue that based a U.S. political party on a global poll undermines its legitimacy, as non-Americans influenced the decision, potentially misaligning the party's priorities with the needs of U.S. voters. On July 5, 2025, Musk announced on X: "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom." You can read it in XPOST.
